Salem Makes Beauceron History
Every so often, a dog comes along that reminds us what the Beauceron is truly capable of. Salem has done exactly that, earning historic achievements in two demanding working dog disciplines and continuing to showcase the versatility, courage, and trainability that have defined the breed for generations.
What is PSA?
Protection Sports Association (PSA) is one of the most challenging dog sports in North America. Designed to test a dog's obedience, control, courage, and ability to perform under pressure, PSA evaluates dogs in realistic scenarios that include distractions, environmental challenges, and advanced protection work.
Before competing in PSA trials, dogs must first earn a Protection Dog Certificate (PDC), which demonstrates foundational obedience, stability, and protection skills.
Salem made history by becoming the first female Beauceron and only the fourth Beauceron overall to earn a PSA PDC. This accomplishment is particularly significant because PSA demands not only working drive and athleticism, but also clear-headedness, nerve strength, and exceptional handler engagement.

What is Police Dog 1?
Police Dog 1 (PD1) is a working dog title that evaluates skills commonly utilized by law enforcement K9s. Dogs are tested in areas such as obedience, control, environmental stability, and protection work, requiring both athletic ability and a balanced temperament.
Unlike many sports that focus solely on precision, PD1 emphasizes practical working ability and the dog's capacity to perform under real-world pressures. Success requires confidence, trainability, and the ability to remain composed while performing difficult tasks.
Salem not only earned her PD1 title, but she did so in historic fashion by becoming the first Beauceron ever to achieve the Police Dog 1 title. To make the accomplishment even more impressive, she earned First Place Overall and received the Highest Protection Score of the trial.
More Than Titles
While titles are an excellent way to measure a dog's abilities, Salem's accomplishments represent something larger. They demonstrate the working aptitude, sound temperament, and versatility that have made the Beauceron one of France's premier working breeds for centuries.
